Hulu’s first Marvel TV effort Runaways has proved a success so far, and now there’s even more good news for the teen superheroes.

That’s right – the show has just been renewed for a third season.

It’s been confirmed that season three will arrive with 10 new episodes, which comes less than two months after the premiere of the second season.

The show is based on Brian K Vaughan and Adrian Alphona’s comic book series and follows a group of six teenagers from different backgrounds. However, they must unite and fight against a common enemy – their criminal parents, who happen to be supervillains in a collective known as Pride.

The show’s executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage have now promised to delve deeper into that world, saying that the third season will be a “magical time” for the show.

“We are so excited to tell more Runaways stories and are so grateful to Marvel, Hulu, our amazing cast and crew and of course our passionate audience,” Schwartz and Savage said in a statement.

“Season 3 will be a magical time on Runaways, as we deepen our connection to the Marvel universe. We are honoured to continue to play in the sandbox created by Brian K Vaughn and Adrian Alphona.”

“Thank you, Hulu! We’re thrilled that Marvel’s Runaways is back for its third season,” he added. “Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and the amazing writers have something epic in store for our terrific cast.”

Julian McMahon has been cast in the lead role of the planned “FBI” spinoff currently in the works at CBS, Variety has confirmed.

The new series would be titled “FBI: Most Wanted.” It would follow the division of the FBI tasked with tracking and capturing the notorious criminals on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. It will air as a planted spinoff episode, or backdoor pilot, of “FBI” that will be broadcast in spring 2019. The project has received a series commitment from the network.

McMahon will play Jess LaCroix, described as an “agent’s agent” who is at the top of his game, and oversees the team from the FBI’s Most Wanted Unit, which is assigned the most extreme and egregious cases.

McMahon recently starred in the Marvel-Hulu series “Runaways” and is known for his time as one of the two leads on the FX drama “Nip/Tuck.” His other television roles include “Charmed,” “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency,” and “Profiler.” He also starred in the 2005 “Fantastic Four” film and its sequel “Rise of the Silver Surfer.”

He is repped by ICM, MGMT Entertainment, and Bloom Hergott Diemer.

“Most Wanted” will be written and executive produced by Dick Wolf and Rene Balcer. Balcer has served as a consulting producer on “FBI” and has previously collaborated with Wolf on multiple iterations of the “Law & Order” franchise. “FBI” executive producers Arthur W. Forney and Peter Jankowski will also executive produce “Most Wanted” with Fred Berner directing the initial episode. Berner has previously produced and directed for several “Law & Order” shows as well as the “Chicago” shows. Like “FBI,” Wolf Films and Universal Television will produce in association with CBS Television Studios

Julian McMahon may be best known at the moment as the mysterious and powerful Jonah in Marvel’s Runaways series, but way back when (in 2003, to be precise) he was better known as plastic surgeon Dr Christian Troy in Nip/Tuck.

And, in good news for the writers and broadcasters currently caught up in the renewal and revival series trend, McMahon reckons that a revival of Nip/Tuck would be “fascinating”.

Speaking to Digital Spy, the actor reflected on how the series started “right at the precipice of the plastic surgery industry”, and added that he still finds his character “pretty interesting”.

“It’d be pretty fascinating to pick up those guys this far into it, with what’s happening now,” he said.

“And those characters – that’s one of the most extraordinary characters I’ve ever seen, Christian Troy. And I don’t see why we couldn’t see him at any stage of his life. I find him pretty interesting.”

McMahon also added that when he read the script for the show – from American Horror Story’s Ryan Murphy, fact fans – he knew he had to play the part.

“When I first read the script, I had to play that guy. I could see it and I could feel it. It felt like part of my system,” he continued.

“They didn’t want me to play that part. That was a really difficult job for me to get. But I was so determined to play that part that I just wasn’t going to give up on it.”

Nip/Tuck ultimately aired for six seasons between 2003 and 2010, while McMahon’s current series Runaways is about to head into its second season, with the actor promising that the new run will be very faithful to the comic books.

“It was almost like, the first season was a prologue, and now we’re getting into where the comic book starts to run,” he told us. “Season two, I think, is pretty faithful to the comic book.”

Marvel’s Runaways season 2 premieres on Wednesday, January 2 at 9pm on SYFY. In the US, the second season begins streaming on Hulu on Friday, December 21.

Some actors just seem like they’re destined to play the villain and Julian McMahon continues to use his leading man good looks to turn some pretty despicable characters into charismatic baddies you almost end up rooting for. In Monster Party directed by Chris von Hoffman (Drifter), McMahon is the head of the Dawson family – an elite family putting on a bizarre dinner party where every guest seems to be hiding something. As three thieves masquerading as caterers plan to rob the Dawson mansion, they slowly find out everyone in attendance is in recovery from a very unique addiction.

Monster Party is stacking up to be one of the more original releases as we come to the end of the year and speaking with McMahon he seemed to be proud of the ensemble work in the film. There’s also a healthy helping of blood and guts served up for dessert. We talked about the fun of playing a diabolical patriarch, McMahon’s favorite genre roles from Charmed to Dr. Doom in Fantastic Four, and what’s coming up in season 2 of Marvel’s Runaways.

The story follows three thieves who plan a daring heist posing as waiters at a fancy Malibu mansion dinner party in hopes of paying off an urgent debt. When their plan goes horribly wrong, the trio realizes the dinner guests are not as innocent as they seem and their simple cash grab becomes a violent and desperate battle to get out of the house alive.

DC: Can you talk a little about the addiction that this group of elite dinner companions are going through without giving too much away?

JM: I think you’d liken it to any kind of addictive qualities whether it’s alcohol or drugs or food or whatever it is. With this particular family and this particular group, actually, it seems to be something that they flourish with and they’re just burying their demons when they can’t express themselves that way. Their demons are probably a little stronger and more overt and powerful than their lives without them.

Cole Turner remains one of actor Julian McMahon’s favorite roles, and more than a decade after he ended his run on the original Charmed, the star of the just-released Monster Party told ComicBook.com that he would be open to a role in The CW’s reimagined version.

Speaking with ComicBook.com in support of Monster Party, his darkly comic new thriller, we asked whether he would consider coming on board Charmed if they came calling.

“Oh, sure. I haven’t seen it, but Charmed has been a big part of my life ever since I was on it, and almost every day somebody says something to me about Charmed and my character on it and how much they loved it,” McMahon said. “I don’t know — this one seems interesting, and I’m excited that they’re revamping something that’s had such a great audience and such a great connection to people. I don’t know how long it’s been since I’ve been off the show, but it’s really resonated with people in a beautiful way.”

McMahon played Cole, the on-again/off-again love interest to Alyssa Milano’s Phoebe Halliwell, from 2000 until 2005, and was one of the most important and longest-running characters on the original Charmed. The actor says that he looks back on the experience with a lot of pride.

“I think that’s always a credit to the characters and the work and the script or the book or the poetry or the novel, whatever it is,” McMahon said. “It’s all up for interpretation. That’s the beauty of it, is that we all look at it in different ways. I admired what we did on Charmed when we were doing it. Even with the graphics, some of the graphics that we were doing were ahead of its time in terms of what they were doing on television at the time. The character I got to play on that show is one of my favorites and will always be one of my favorites. It’s great to see a reinvention of it, and hope that they connect as well as we did.”

It sounds like it’ll be great. The original incarnation was pretty fantastic, and I was really, really proud to be a part of it. And you know, I wouldn’t change that for the world. If they’re rebooting something like that—it had such an enormous audience to begin with, so I can see how, if you did it the right way, you could tap into that again. There’s an equally large audience tap into now. I love the girls, I loved my character. So if they can create something that people enjoy as much as they did then, then hats off to them.
